GloryBound Classes: Gladiator, Lancer or Archer?
GloryBound has three combat classes: Gladiator (sword and shield), Lancer (spear) and Archer (bow). See how their weapon roles differ before you choose.
GloryBound has three combat classes, and you pick one as you start the game. The official experience description puts it simply: "Master the sword and shield, spear or bow." What separates the three classes is the weapon role each one fills — the quick answer below sums that up, and the rest of this guide walks through what each class does and how the choice actually works.
Quick answer
GloryBound has three combat classes: Gladiator (sword and shield), Lancer (spear) and Archer (bow). Gladiator is the close-combat defender, Lancer fights with the spear's longer reach, and Archer attacks from a distance.
- Gladiator: sword and shield for solid defense in close combat
- Lancer: spear for longer reach
- Archer: bow for striking from a distance
- You pick your class through the 'Choose your path' popup when you start the game
The three classes and their weapon roles
Each class is defined by the weapon it masters, and each weapon fills a different role in a fight:
Comparison
| Class | Weapon | Combat role |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Sword and shield | Solid defense in close combat |
| Lancer | Spear | Longer reach |
| Archer | Bow | Striking from a distance |
Gladiator fights with a sword and shield. This is the close-combat role: you are in the middle of the action, and the shield gives you solid defense while you fight at melee range.
Lancer fights with a spear, a weapon built around longer reach. You still fight in melee, but from further out than a sword-and-shield fighter — .
Archer fights with a bow and attacks from a distance. Instead of trading blows up close, you strike enemies from farther away.
The material describes these as weapon roles, not as a ranking. Nothing in the game's own description or guide coverage establishes one class as stronger than another, so treat the choice as a matter of preferred range and style rather than picking a "best" class.

How class selection works
When you start GloryBound, class selection appears as a "Choose your path" popup with exactly three cards: Gladiator, Lancer and Archer. Each card shows the class name along with its skill-trait text and a Choose button, so you can read the short description on each card before committing to one.
The recorded run opens that exact popup and picks a class, so you can see the cards before you commit:

After choosing Archer, for example, a yellow banner appears, your character is shown holding a bow, and your class information appears in the top-right HUD.
How to choose between them
Because the real difference is the weapon role, the choice comes down to how you want to fight:
Decision guide
If you want more depth on a specific pick, each class has its own guide: the Gladiator class guide, the Lancer class guide and the Archer class guide.
Where your class fits in the rest of the game
Your class shapes how you fight, but it is the starting point of a larger loop. GloryBound is a gladiator-arena survival game: after picking a class you build strength in the gym, plan upgrades on a skill tree, and then take on waves of monsters and undead in the arena — in co-op squads of four, where you can revive downed allies. Weapons and armor you collect range from Common to Mythic rarity.
If you are just getting started, the beginner guide walks through the full early loop, and the strength training and skills pages cover the progression systems behind your class. Redeeming active GloryBound codes can also boost your character's progress.
